Klaserie Game Reserve
Situated in the northwest corner of the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve on the banks of the Klaserie River and adjacent to the Kruger National Park, The Last Word Kitara is an intimate safari camp, where guest can expect the highest levels of luxury and service.
The camp itself is laid out along a seasonal river which is a frequented by a variety wildlife, birds and elephants, which are often seen digging up the mineral-rich river.
See all of this incredible region and its inhabitants on game drives both in the morning and afternoon, or if you are feeling a bit more adventurous, a walking safari. This is the real wild, where lions, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, wild dog and so much more roam freely.
Dotted along the riverside, each of the 6 suites at Kitara are styled to mirror the South African savanna that remains in full view and best seen from the private patio. They are all air conditioned with en-suite bathrooms, a Victorian bathtub, a walk in shower and an outdoor shower.
The guest areas at Kitara includes 2 lounge areas, a viewing deck and a swimming pool, all of which overlook the Klaserie River. There is also a library, bar, dining room and a boma for dining outdoors in the evening.

All meals; all beverages such as soft drinks, waters, beers, house wines and local spirits; tea/coffee; in room minibars; 2 game drives per day including refreshments and optional walking safaris are included. IN ADDITION: For self-drive visitors, a transfer to/from the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve's Head Quarters to the camp at 13:30 is included. There is a vehicle road levy cash fee of R280 per vehicle (subject to change), which is payable at the Incheni Gate.
Children Policy
Children aged 12 years and older are welcome. Rates available on request.
Bush Walks / Walking Safaris
Children under the age of 16 years are not permitted on walking safaris. The final decision on whether a guest can join a walking safari remains with the guide and camp manager.

Directions For Drivers
From Johannesburg/Pretoria: Take the N12 or N4 highway to Witbank/eMalahleni (from Johannesburg Airport, follow signs to Boksburg to find the N12). Follow the N4 highway past Middleburg (Toll Plaza), Belfast and Machadodorp (Toll Plaza). Follow the Schoemanskloof option on the N4 and then take the R36 to Lydenburg/Mashishing.
Follow the R36 to Ohrigstad, go through the Strydom Tunnel and take the R527 to Hoedspruit. Turn right onto the R40 towards Klaserie, and continue along this road until you see the turning off to the left for Eastgate Airport. Go past the airport, and continue along this road until you reach the Timbavati Gate. Look out for Bones Bush Pub on your left and Josmacs Bush Pub on your right hand side. In front of you now will be the Timbavati Gate (Nkhulu Gate). On the right you will see a pub called Jos Macs and on the left a dirt road that is closed off by a gate. Proceed through this gate – you will be required to sign in but will not need to pay anything. All guests need to present their passport to allow entry into the reserve.
Once you are through, turn immediately left and travel back on to the dirt road (whose direct access is closed off by the gate) and proceed to Incheni Gate. The gate entrance fee at Incheni Gate is R280 per vehicle (subject to change).
Once through the Incheni Gate, carry straight on the main dirt road for approximately 20 minutes, do not turn off the main road. You will see a large Vodacom cell phone tower on your right-hand side. Approximately 200 meters after the tower straight in front of you, you will arrive at Klaserie Private Nature Reserve Head Quarters. You will leave your car here and you will then be transferred to the lodge.
Do not get out of your car until you reach the Head Quarters. You may see some wildlife on your way - if you do, slow down and maintain a good distance. Do not drive off-road in any circumstances.
From Hazyview: Follow the R40 towards Klaserie. Continue through Klaserie, and about 6 km before you reach Hoedspruit itself, turn right at the signboard towards Eastgate/Hoedspruit Airport, Thornybush Reserve and Timbavati Reserve (Argyle Road). Go past the airport, continue along this road and follow the directions above.
From Eastgate/Hoedspruit Airport: Turn left and proceed along this road until you reach the Timbavati Gate and follow the directions as above.
From Kruger National Park/Orpen Gate: Exit the Park, and continue along the R531. Turn right onto the R40 towards Klaserie, and follow the directions from Hazyview as above.
PLEASE NOTE: Guests must arrive at the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve’s Head Quarters by 13:30 for the complimentary transfer to the Last Word Kitara Camp.
General Information For Guests
All of the suites have en-suite bathrooms with Victorian baths, double basins and indoor and outdoor showers. They also have private patios, air conditioning/heating, ceiling fans, a fully stocked mini bar, mosquito nets and repellent, hairdryers, umbrellas, an in-room safe and tea/coffee making facilities.
The lodge has 2 lounge areas overlooking the river, a dining room, viewing deck, infinity pool, bar area, boma and a library.
Activities that are available at Kitara include morning/afternoon game drives and optional guided walking safaris (weather dependant).
In-room massages can also be arranged (additional cost).
Wi-Fi is provided.

Transfers can be arranged from Hoedspruit Airport to the camp at an additional cost.
A laundry service is available (additional cost).
