Sabi Sand Game Reserve

AndBeyond Tengile River Lodge Location Map

Meaning “tranquil” in the local Tsonga language, AndBeyond Tengile River Lodge is situated in a serene setting, on a bend of the Sand River in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Adjacent to the world renowned Kruger National Park, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is famed for its intimate wildlife encounters, and home to a host of animals, including the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino). The reserve is well known for its leopard sightings. These usually shy and elusive cats have become accustomed to vehicles the Sabi Sand, and unlike many other areas where leopards are rarely glimpsed in daylight hours, sightings of these magnificent animals are not uncommon during the day.

Game drives are done in the company of a ranger and tracker team. Setting off in the early morning and afternoon, you will spend the first few hours viewing all forms of wildife ranging from members of the Big 5 to spotted hyena, hippo, various species of antelope and over 300 bird species. Mid way through your game drive, you will stop for some refreshments at a scenic spot to enjoy all the reserve has to offer. Afternoon game drives may continue after dark, with spotlights used to illuminate wildlife that remains active at night.

For those looking for an active thrill beyond the excitement of Big 5 sightings on a game drive vehicle, a walking safari offers an opportunity to learn more about the intricacies of the African bush, from discovering fascinating flora, reading animal tracks to meeting smaller wildlife up-close. This is a chance to embark on an adventure where all of your senses come alive.

Tengile features 9 suites that are raised above ground level to give the impression that they are floating over the riverbed, providing exceptional views from the dappled shade of a cool riverine forest. The spacious suites have sunken lounges, spacious decks, elegant bedrooms, private lap pools and en-suite bathrooms (with indoor and al fresco showers) that open out into the forest, creating private spaces in the open air.

Following the curve of the river bank, each area of the lodge has magnificent views of the river, along with its diverse and abundant wildlife. There is also a beautiful massage and gym area offering a haven of tranquility where guests can spend the entire day relaxing in between game drives.
