Laikipia Plateau
Sosian Lodge is a beautifully restored African ranch house that was built in the 1940s by Italian artisans, and accommodates up to 14 people in the atmosphere of a private home.
Sosian is one of a unique group of ranches varying from 5,000 to 100,000 acres on the Laikipia Plateau and covers 24,000 acres of very diverse ecosystems. Open grassy plains are home to plains game such as Beisa oryx, Grant's gazelle, ostrich and cheetah. Laikipia boosts a population of 80% of the rare Grevy's zebra and Jackson's hartebeest in its region. To the south of the ranch, the bush is thicker and full of acacia woodland which is home to several elephant herds (Laikipia ranking second in the highest elephant populations in Kenya), buffalo, reticulated giraffe, wild dog, lion and leopard.
Sosian offers a huge range of activities including walking, horse-riding, camel safaris, game drives, night drives, fishing, archery, tennis and swimming in the waterfalls behind the lodge or in the lodge's swimming pool. Guests are also encouraged to participate in ranch life, such as dipping cattle. The guiding is of the highest standard.
Guests are accommodated in an elegant farmhouse that has been lovingly renovated. All the rooms are en-suite with their own private verandas. The lodge sleeps 14 with more space for children if needed, in the family cottage, which has an interconnecting room to sleep another 3 children with their own bathroom. There is also a larger and more private honeymoon cottage, known as the Italian cottage, built by Italian artisans post war.
Sosian is well known for its delicious home cooking using fresh ingredients from the organic vegetable garden and for its warm and friendly hospitality.
