Masai Mara

Ilkeliani Camp Location Map

Nestled in an area that is a favourite for elephants coming to drink from the Talek River, right on the border of the Masai Mara Reserve.  Ilkeliani Camp consists of only 17 tents - each commanding views of the plains and the wildlife action throughout the day. A suspension bridge links the camp to the reserve itself.

It is a permanent camp designed along eco-friendly principles. The ethos is to leave a minimum foot print on nature.

Breakfast, alfresco lunches and candle light dinners are served in the Mess tent.

Picnic breakfast and lunches can be prepared if you are on safari here with a private driver-guide so that you can stay out and explore the reserve all day long.

Ilkeliani also has a resident naturalist who conducts daily nature walks along the Talek River and guests can learn how to identify various animal tracks and birds. The camp offers cultural excursions to the local Maasai village to help guests discover more about the local tribe and their way of life.

For the ultimate safari experience, begin your day with a hot air balloon ride cutting through the cool air of the plains as herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra scatter in search of food below you. Upon landing, you are treated to a breakfast and your guide will then take you either back to the camp for a well deserved nap or continue on a game drive. The camp can also arrange walks outside the main reserve with an armed ranger, in a neighbouring Conservancy area. Costs for both these extra activities are available on request.

The 17 en-suite tented rooms have a raised position overlooking the Talek river and surrounding landscape.  Each tent has been carefully sited under its own cluster of shady indigenous trees giving guests a true feel of being out in the wilderness.

The interiors are spacious and comfortable featuring a front veranda with a day bed and canvas safari chairs.

Start TestimonialThank you for the excellent service provided, even more considering such a short lead time. The camp [Ilkeliani Camp] was exactly what I was looking for, with the right balance of quality and service. Major advantage of the camp is the little bridge over the river that limits the reserve. This way, just by crossing it on foot to the vehicles on the other side, already in the reserve we are able to start the safari right away. By this we save a good 30m each way between the camp and the reserve, which is an extra hour for relaxing we have per day. The balloon ride was also a success. So overall I enjoyed a lot every moment. I am surely recommending your services.End Testimonial
