The Garden Route
Originally called Baia Formosa, or Beautiful Bay, by the early Portuguese, Plettenberg Bay is home to some of the best beaches along the Garden Route. In the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, schools of playful dolphins and resident Orca and Bryde's whales are frequently seen, and between July and December, the migratory Southern Right whales come to the shores to calf.
Situated in its own private nature reserve and nestling on a cliff's edge, Plettenberg Park is a small intimate destination that prides itself on exceptional individual service and superb personalised cuisine.
Guests can enjoy relaxing by the swimming pool, or on the hotel's private sunbathing beach with a tidal rock pool. The Plettenberg Park Spa includes a wide array of treatments and massages.
The nearby Robberg Nature Reserve, situated on a rugged coastal peninsula, has sweeping views of the bay, as well as superb whale and dolphin watching, excellent birding, hiking trails and an archaeological site with evidence of human habitation that stretches back for more than 120 thousand years.
The interior of the hotel has an afro-Colonial look which is very contemporary. All the luxurious rooms have extra long sleigh beds and TV, and the larger rooms have fireplaces and a CD player and mini bar.
Each room has a private balcony to allow you to enjoy the view.
As the sun disappears behind the sea-cliffs whilst you sip your sundowner, you can choose to dine indoors, around the pool by candlelight, or on the sea-deck by lantern-light.
