Amboseli National Park
Ol Tukai Lodge in the Amboseli National Park is one of the best spots in the world to watch elephant with the backdrop of Africa's highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. The bull elephants in particular have incredibly long tusks, indeed, these are some of the largest tusks to be seen throughout the entire African continent. Also on game drives in the Park, you can expect to encounter buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, impala and warthog. Not surprisingly, never far away from these herds of grazers are lion, leopard, cheetah, jackal, hyena and serval cat. The birdlife is also extremely good, with over 400 bird species recorded, including over 40 birds of prey.
To crown it all, this is where you get one of the world's most awe-inspiring sights - dawn breaks and the sunsets over the 19,000 foot snow-capped dome of Africa’s highest mountain!
In between game drives, guests can relax around the swimming pool and the pool deck has sun beds for soaking up the African sunshine.
Lunch is usually served out on the veranda and on most occasions elephants, zebra and buffalo can be spotted metres away from the fence. The restaurant serves a la carte menus as well as set buffets. Theme nights are held throughout the week and include barbecues and Swahili fish menus. On alternate evenings a troupe of Maasai dancers entertain guests after dinner with traditional songs and dances.
The Elephant Bar is situated between the lounge and dining room. This open-air bar serves a wide selection of beers, cocktails, liqueurs and fresh fruit juices. Above the bar a roof level deck offers splendid panorama views.
The 80 stylish rooms all have an uninterrupted view of either the wetlands or Kilimanjaro from their individual terraces.
In addition, there is the secluded Kibo Villa, set in 5 acres of gardens, lawns and a little forest of indigenous tortilis acacia trees. Its tranquil atmosphere combines luxuriant comfort with the bush appeal of its rugged surroundings. Built in natural stone and elegant gum pole structures, Kibo Villa has 3 large master en-suite bedrooms, a lounge, a fully facilitated kitchen, a barbeque area, and a dining area that stretches onto a large veranda. All bedrooms have views of Mount Kilimanjaro. The villa is taken on an exclusive basis, making this ideal for families or groups of friends travelling together. Guests may also use the facilities at Ol Tukai Lodge, which is close by.
