Laikipia Plateau
Located at the very heart of the 65,000 acre Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Lewa House is set on top of a hill with extensive views over gentle rolling hills with Mount Kenya to the south and the rugged Mathews Range and the sacred mountain of Ol Olokwe to the north. Run and owned by the highly personable and likeable Calum and Sophie, and their young family, a stay here will be a wonderful experience.
Lewa House offers both day and night game drives in the company of experienced and well trained guides. Game drives take in Lewa's diverse habitats and unique wildlife (including the Big 5). To make the most of your time at Lewa, game drives often depart with a picnic breakfast and/or lunch so you can spend as much time as you want out and about exploring the Conservancy. Bush walks with Calum are also available. Other activities also include horse-riding, camel safaris, cultural visits, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy HQ trips, and even scenic flights in a biplane.
The heart of Lewa House is a large elegant building with an open fireplace at one end where guests can relax during the day and mingle with a drink before dinner, and at the other is a large family dining table where the evening meals are served, hosted by Calum and Sophie. There is a large shaded verandah extending away from the main house with a comfortable seating area from which you can enjoy a cool afternoon drink and soak in the very special atmosphere of Lewa House.
Beautiful shaded gardens surround the house and breakfast or lunch is often served on the lawn. The house also has a large swimming pool which overlooks a waterhole providing some of the best game viewing on Lewa!
There are 3 thatched family cottages, each comprising of a double and a twin room each with an en-suite bathroom. Adjoining the two bedrooms is a large verandah where you and your family can sit and enjoy early-morning biscuits and coffees before heading out into the Conservancy.
In addition, there are 4 'Earth Pods'. Their novel architecture is designed to disappear into the landscape, collect and store rainwater and maintain an even temperature. They have a simple, elegant decor that compliments the views.
