Zanzibar
In the heart of Stone Town, Emerson on Hurumzi provides elegant and traditionally furnished rooms and a rooftop restaurant which commands a magnificent view of the Indian Ocean and the jumble of rooftops, tea houses, mosques and spires which make up the birds eye view of Stone Town.
The 2nd tallest building in Stone Town, the hotel has been restored to its former glory when it was the residence of one of the richest men in the Swahili Empire. The furnishings are all original Zanzibari antiques of varied origins and styles that, together, create the impressions of Arabian nights and sultan princesses escaping in the dead of the night for romance.
The rooftop tea house restaurant is open for lunch, dinner and sunset cocktails. The cuisine is designed to marry the culture and style of the building with the distinct culinary heritage of the era, and the menu features oriental Persian and Omani dishes. Musicians from the Dhow Country Music Academy play traditional Taarab music on most nights. The seating is Swahili style on thick Persian Rugs with low tables and there are a few regular height seats available as well.
The 10 guest rooms and suites are beautiful and romantic, each representing Zanzibari traditions in a distinct way. Ceiling fans keep guests cool along with the constant breeze on the upper floors. All guest rooms have large Zanzibari beds complete with netting. Many room have stone bathtubs in the bedroom as an added feature.
