Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Remote, beautiful and intimate, Clouds Gorilla Mountain Lodge is set high above the clouds at Bwindi Inpenetrable Forest National Park. At over 2,000 metres above sea level, it is one of Uganda's highest lodges.
It is also an ideal base for travellers seeking what David Attenborough called 'one of the most exciting encounters of his life'. Gorilla tracking is the the main highlight of a trip to Clouds, and for many it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The start of the trek at Nkuringo is just a short walk from the lodge. The tracking can take anywhere between 2-8 hours and requires a degree of fitness and physical ability. To ensure minimal intrusion on the gorillas’ lives and habitat, you are restricted to one hour with an ape family once they have been located.
Gorilla trekking may well be the main reason for your visit, but why not also enjoy some additional activities during your stay such as a community visit, indulge in a massage or a beauty treatment, or head off with a guide for a forest walk to discover the many bird species that are also found here.
Guests stay in one of 10 volcanic stone cottages, with cosy fireplaces, big picture windows, loft-like interiors and specially commissioned art by the ‘Clouds 9’, a group of the country’s most respected local artists. You’ll also find a sheltered veranda perfect for a cocktail or a cup of tea, taking in the remote beauty of the forest and the breathtaking views of the Virunga volcanoes glowing red on the horizon.
