Amboseli National Park
Tortilis Camp is named after the flat topped, umbrella thorn tree, the Acacia Tortilis, and is situated in an area of unspoilt woodland in a private concession right on the edge of the Amboseli National Park, which is best known for its unrivalled views of Kilimanjaro and the local elephant population - estimated to be over 2,000. The elephants are some of the largest in Africa, as they have been protected here for generations.
Guests staying here can enjoy game drives and sundowners both inside the Park, and within the private 30,000 acre game concession. As well as elephants, on game drives guests may be able to spot black rhino, lion and cheetah, and there are always huge herds of zebra and wildebeest on the plains. Guests can also go on walking safaris in the concession with local Masai guides, enabling them to not only learn about the bush but also be educated on the Masai culture.
In between the safari actitivies, enjoy a treatment at the spa, relax around the pool and soak up the African sun, and watch elephant families forage for food just outside camp.
Accommodation is in 16 luxury en-suite tents, which are raised up on wooden platforms. Each tent has a thatched roof and a private veranda with wonderful views of Mount Kilimanjaro. There is also a Family Tent which consists of one double en-suite bedroom, one twin en-suite bedroom, and a spacious private verandah. Finally, the Private House consists of one en-suite double bedroom, one en-suite twin bedroom, and a spacious sitting/dining room with a verandah. The House has a swimming pool which is shared with the Family Tent.
The main guest areas include a main lounge, bar and dining area, all exquisitely built with natural materials and thatched roofs, again also with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro. The friendly staff, drawn from the local Masai community, area all dedicated to making your stay truly memorable.

Tortilis tap water is totally safe for drinking, but bottled water is also available from the bar and in the tents.
The camp is powered by solar power and a generator that runs from 6 am until midday, and again between 5 pm and 10 pm. The tents have inverter power so that there is 24 hour lighting and items such as mobile phones and camera batteries can be charged here. Guests can also recharge any items at the bar. Items such as hair dryers however cannot be operated in the tent as this would overload the inverter and cause it to shut down. A hair dryer is available from the bar, for use at the swimming pool changing area, but it will only work during generator hours.
