AmaKhosi Private Game Reserve

AmaKhosi Safari Lodge Location Map

AmaKhosi Safari Lodge is situated in the 12,000 hectare Amazulu Private Game Reserve, about 4 hours north of Durban.

The reserve is made up of a varied ecosystem which includes savanna, mountains and wetlands - making it the ideal home to the Big 5 as well as giraffe, zebra, warthog and hyena, hippopotamus and crocodile. There are also more than 400 bird species.

Early morning and late afternoon guided walks and game drives take you into the African bush to observe the animals and their fascinating behaviour. Qualified game rangers introduce the unique role each animal plays on the massive stage within the African Kingdom.

Amakhosi's main lodge boasts a deck with an intimate bar, lounge area, a swimming pool and dining area where meals are served under the stars. With panoramic river views, guests can unwind at Amakhosi River Spa, which offers beauty and message treatments using eco-friendly and holistic products.

The 6 luxury river suites are situated along the flowing Mkuze River. Each one boasts a separate air-conditioned bedroom, a lounge with a fully stocked mini bar and tea/coffee making facilities. The high thatched ceilings and glass walls are complimented by a large bathroom with a unique bath made for two and an outdoor (al fresco) shower.

For ultimate privacy there are 2 honeymoon suites with private plunge pools and hammocks.

'IsiGodlo' (meaning 'chiefs residence') is a private 2 bedroom house which overlooks the Mkuze River and can accommodate up to 4 guests. Guests staying here have their own ranger, tracker and private game vehicle for game drives.

The Amakhosi Children's 'Explorer' package is offered to children from the age of 3 upwards or to anyone who is young at heart who would like to join in !

The package has been created to both entertain the children who come and visit the lodge and to educate them about the Southern Africa culture and wildlife.

Each child who signs up to the package will receive an Explorers Activity Bag, which will contain crayons, bug viewer, magic bath beans and bath tint, an activity book, a fabric picture of one of the Big 5, and some sweets and treats.

Activities will also include the following

:Movie Time::Movie time takes place in the wildlife center where a film will be projected onto the wall whilst the children relax on scattered cushions and enjoy some popcorn and a cold drink. The movies would consist of a variety of African based animations or films, suitable for all ages.

Arts and Crafts::Arts and Crafts is a time for the children to express what they have seen and learnt whilst being at Amakhosi and most importantly to have fun. During Arts and Craft time, the children will have a variety of activities they could choose from, including fabric painting, making their own beaded jewelry (as in the Zulu culture), colouring in pictures or making a collage with natural things they have found while exploring our beautiful surroundings. The Arts and Crafts time will take place outside on the lawn next to the swimming pool or in the wildlife center if the weather conditions are poor.

Fun and Games::If the child does not want to join in an activity there will be plenty exciting goodies in the Explorers Bag that will be just as much fun to do, and they are able to do and this in the comfort of there own suites. As well, at reception there is a variety of books, board games and puzzles that they can take out and enjoy. The lodge also has a few games and toys for them to play with in the pool or they could simply watch DSTV in the TV lounge.

The total cost for the Explorers package which includes all the activities, the Explorers bag with all the fun content as well as all children's meals is R350 (subject to change). The package MUST be requested at the time of booking. Please note that babysitting is not included in the package rate.
