The Amakhala Game Reserve is a 7,200 hectare malaria-free game reserve situated just an hour from Port Elizabeth. A safari experience here will include twice daily game drives in the company of a professional ranger, in search of the Big 5 of the African bush - lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and the elusive leopard. Over 16 antelope species are also here, alongside giraffe, wildebeest, zebra and cheetah.

Guided walks with one of the qualified rangers are also offered (additional cost and on request). Riders looking for an unforgettable riding experience can saddle up for a ride on the wild side with Amakhala Horse Trails.

Woodbury Tented Camp is set in the heart of the reserve, and the tranquil surroundings of the open bushveld allow you to truly experience a quiet getaway. Camp life is centred around the thatch-and-canvas dining and lounge area, with its expansive deck overlooking the Woodbury plains. A wide variety of game species such as zebra, giraffe, buffalo and elephant can often be seen from the deck, while the haunting cry of fish eagles echoes across the valley. There is a pool for relaxing by inbetween game drives.

Guests can also enjoy a range of relaxing treatments by qualified beauty therapists, trained to pamper and soothe their clients - on request, guests can be taken over to the nearby Bush Lodge to enjoy their treatment.

Four of the tents have breathtaking views looking out onto the reserve, and the other tents are nestled amongst the trees to give you a total African bush experience with the beautiful wake up of the musical birds.

Families are also able to enjoy the African bush together as there are 2 family tents amongst the trees, which comprises of 2 adjoining tents linked by a private wooden deck - enabling parents to enjoy some privacy while knowing the children are not far away.

Start TestimonialWoodbury Tented Camp was incredible, all the staff were amazing and overall I had a fantastic stay there.End Testimonial

Start TestimonialPlease let Kyle and team at Woodbury know we are back safe in UK. We really enjoyed the Woodbury experience and special thanks to Kyle for a really informative game drives. Would thoroughly recommend for a good value game drive experience. Many thanks for all your help.End Testimonial

Start TestimonialWoodbury Tented Camp was a fantastic experience - the rangers were knowledgable and enthusiastic - thought the drives might get a little boring for my 6 year old son but not at all - they were passionate about their jobs and their enthusiasm was infectious. We had four drives each lasting about three hours - the overall experience was memorable and the kids loved the rustic tents - would really recommend this. Thanks for organising the itinerary, we had a holiday of a lifetime!End Testimonial

Start TestimonialSorry for the delay and wanted to thank you very much we had a great time, the team was brilliant, the accomodation [Woodbury Tented Camp] was great and location was fab, can highly recommend it.End Testimonial

Start TestimonialWe had a fabulous time - what a beautiful country and such friendly people! As far as Amakhala is concerned, it surpassed our expectations. Our ranger was absolutely superb, a young fellow whose job was his vocation. In addition, the camp [Woodbury Tented Lodge] part of the reserve was not particularly busy, so out of our six game drives, my husband and I were the only guests on the land rover with Jaco! On the other two, there were three of us - a ratio almost unbeatable - personal service! And to crown the whole experience, we saw elephant every day - along with just about everything else! It was fantastic and we have hundreds of photos to enjoy. I am so glad I found you and that you gave us such good advice. I shall now complete the survey attached to your e-mail. Many thanks for everything and we will gladly recommend you and Amakhala to anyone.End Testimonial

Start TestimonialObviously not as luxurious as the more expensive lodge accommodation, but we thought it [Woodbury Tented Camp] was good value. It was too hot in the tents in the middle of the day (they had air coolers which helped, but not air-con). Otherwise, we thought our care was excellent, we had a very good, knowledgeable and committed ranger, and liked the whole ethos of the game park - very conservation-minded and caring of their animals. It was a fantastic experience and we saw a lot of wildlife.End Testimonial
