Northern Cape
Tswalu Kalahari is South Africa's largest privately owned game reserve (100,000 hectares), and is situated in the heart of the Northern Cape Province. Game-viewing opportunities are unparalleled, with desert-adapted animal species such as desert black rhino, black-maned kalahari lion and loveable meerkat encounters, and the reserve's child-friendly approach and malaria-free location make activities and an appreciation of the Kalahari wilderness accessible to individuals and families alike.
Guided walks, private vehicles, horse-back safaris and hot air ballooning are all available as are nights sleeping out under Africa's biggest skies, simply to experience the sunsets, the stars and the silence.
There are only 2 lodges on the entire reserve - the Motse and Tarkuni - meaning only a total of 30 guests can be accommodated at any one time, and therefore privacy and exclusivity are paramount to your experience.
Tarkuni is a private villa set amid rolling hills, offering the ultimate in luxury and personalised service for families and small groups of up to 10 guests. The accommodation offers 5 luxury bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and outdoor heated showers, open plan lounge and dining room, a library, a covered patio and swimming pool. Children are welcome at Tarkuni and families can feel perfectly at home. Tarkuni offers the luxury of absolute flexibility with a private game viewing vehicle, as well as a dedicated host and chef.
The Motse - a Tswana word for village - consists of 10 luxury suites in total, with 3 of the 10 suites being large 2 bedroom family suites and one being wheelchair accessible. Beds have been orientated to maximise the views and al fresco bathrooms have been created with private indoor gardens with outdoor showers which are open to the starry night skies of the Kalahari.
