Thornybush Game Lodge is situated within the Thornybush Private Game Reserve - 14,500 hectares of prime game viewing bushveld just west of Timbavati and the Greater Kruger Park. Unrivalled game viewing, including the Big 5, is complemented by exquisite accommodation and sublime cuisine. Superb attention to detail and highly personalized service make for a memorable stay.

Guests are also offered daily bush walks after breakfast to suit their interests and fitness levels, accompanied by an armed ranger and tracker.

Thornybush Game Lodge has a fully equipped spa, which offers a range of treatments such as massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, facials, manicures and pedicures.

Massages are also offered within the privacy of the guests' room, on their deck.

Thornybush Game Lodge offers 16 stylish double suites.  All the suites have private wooden decks, with comfortable seating, overlooking the reserve and waterhole.

In addition, the exclusive-use Kamara House is a private house overlooking a small riverbed and is perfect for multigenerational families or small groups. The villa-style house has two en-suite bedrooms, and the third room is interleading to the main bedroom which provides a shower only. From the moment you arrive, everything is taken care of by the friendly staff and your dedicated butler, so you can spend the day relaxing on sun loungers with your book or watch passing wildlife from the rim-flow plunge pool. Close to Game Lodge, you can stroll across to the Spa for a wellness massage or pre-lunch drinks on the main deck.

Rates Include

Dawn and dusk shared safari game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles; bushveld walks; all meals, tea/coffee, snacks and sundowner drinks on game drives; the Thornybush Conservation fee; and the Tourism bed levy are included. PLEASE NOTE: All other drinks are NOT included.


Children Policy

Children of any age are welcome. Rates available on request. Children under the age of 6 years are not allowed on normal game drives but a private vehicle can be booked at an additional cost. Children under the age of 16 years are not permitted on guided walks.

Directions For Drivers

From Eastgate/Hoedspruit Airport: Turn left and proceed along this road (following the signs to Thornybush Reserve). After about 11 km, turn right at the Thornybush signboard into Guernsey Road, continue down this road for about 9 km, and the entrance to the reserve will be on your left-hand side.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE RATE YOU HAVE PAID FOR YOUR STAY AT THORNYBUSH GAME LODGE INCLUDES THE CONSERVATION FEE, SO PLEASE DO NOT PAY THIS AGAIN!

Once inside the gate, follow the signs to the lodge through the reserve. Allow about 20-30 minutes to drive from the gate to the lodge.

Do not get out of your car until you reach the lodge. You may see some wildlife on your way - if you do, slow down and maintain a good distance. Do not drive off-road in any circumstances.

From Hazyview: Follow the R40 towards Phalaborwa. Continue through Bushbuckridge and Acornhoek, and about 6 km before you reach Hoedspruit itself, turn right at the signboard towards Eastgate Airport / Thornybush Reserve / Timbavati Reserve (Argyle Road).

Pass through the security gate and continue along this road for approx 17 km then turn right at the Thornybush signboard into Guernsey Road. Continue down this road for about 9 km, and the entrance to the reserve will be on your left-hand side.

From Kruger National Park/Orpen Gate: Exit the Park via the Orpen Gate, and continue along the R531. Turn right onto the Guernsey Road after approx 38km. 

Pass through the security gate and travel for approx 7km on Tar Road and a further 4km on dirt road. Turn left at the T-Junction and travel another 4km to The Thornybush Private Nature Reserve Gate on your right.

From Johannesburg/Pretoria: Take the N12 or N4 highway to Witbank/eMalahleni (from Johannesburg Airport, follow signs to Boksburg to find the N12). Continue with the N4 in the direction Mbombela (Nelspruit). Approximately 60 km past Middleburg take the R 540 to your left. Travel though the towns of eMakhazeni (Belfast) and eMnotweni (Dullstroom) to Mashishing (Lydenburg).

Take the R 36 (which becomes the R 527) towards Hoedspruit, passing through Origstad, descending the Able Erasmus Pass. Once in Hoedspruit take the R 40 south towards Bushbuckridge. Travel 6 km and turn left at the Eastgate Airport sign / Argyle Road.

General Information For Guests

All suites offer an en-suite bathroom with a large bath overlooking the africa bush with indoor and outdoor showers and double basin. All suites also have air conditioning, mini bar, tea/coffee making facilities, a hair dryer, dresssing gowns, a room safe, mosquito nets and a private wooden deck.

Kamara House has two en-suite bedrooms, and the third room is interleading to the main bedroom

The main area of the lodge includes a restaurant, a bar, a swimming pool, a gym and a spa.

There is secure parking.

A laundry service is available (additional cost).

Credit card facilities are available.

Wi-Fi is available and there is mobile phone coverage.

The camp is not fenced but has an electric strand to discourage buffalo and elephant.

Dusk and dawn safaris depart in an open Land Cruiser with experienced rangers and trackers. These drives are undertaken at times best suited for game viewing which varies depending on the season.

After breakfast, guests are also offered walks with their guide to suit their interests and fitness levels.

Guests are invited to visit the Hlokomela community project encompassing local initiatives to provide services to the local communities. The Thornybush Collection chooses to support the Hlokomela Community Projects and invites guests to visit the project which is an approximate 45 minute drive from Thornybush Game Reserve, in an air conditioned minibus.
