Sunshine Hotel

Sunshine Hotel is located in Matemwe on the north-east coast of Zanzibar. Eco friendly, stylish and cosy, the hotel was carefully designed to create a unique chilled-out ambiance to make you feel happy and relaxed. Set right on an unspoiled white sandy beach, lined with palm trees and washed by warm, turquoise waters of Indian Ocean, it's a perfect getaway from everyday life.

You can relax on your room balcony or veranda, cool down with a refreshing drink by the swimming pool or chill out on the comfortable traditional benches in the lounge area. The restaurant serves a wide variety of delicious food, and the menu is changed daily so you will not get bored!

Diving on Zanzibar offers you a stunning underwater world with schools of tropical reef fish, turtles, dolphins, nudibranchs and beautiful hard and soft coral formations. The diving is done mainly around the Mnemba Atoll which is regarded as the best diving area on Zanzibar. The hotel uses a PADI dive centre which offers daily diving and snorkelling trips to Mnemba and other north-east coast reefs - the centre is situated inside the Sunshine Marine Lodge (sister hotel) and free transfers are provided.

In every room you will find a comfortable queensize bed with a large mosquito net, and a private bathroom with shower and W/C. The rooms do not have air-conditioning, as they were designed to use the ocean breeze to cool down the rooms. All rooms do have a ceiling fan, however. There are 15 rooms in total.

The 12 Sunshine Suites are located in 3 bungalows surrounded by the tropical garden, and each has either a spacious balcony or veranda.

The Honeymoon Suite is located right on the beach, and has its own garden with a beach banda and a plunge pool on the veranda. The Blue Breeze Suite is situated on the first floor above the Honeyumoon Suite, with a spacious terrace and great views over the ocean.

Finally, the Garden Suite and the Garden Deluxe Suite are also set in the gardens.

Rates Include

Breakfast is included. Half Board rates available on request. PLEASE NOTE: The rate excludes the USD 5.00 per person per night Infrastructure Levy - this is payable directly to the hotel IN CASH upon check out. For stays over Peak Period (20 December - 10 January) there is a minimum 5 night stay and Half Board is mandatory.

General Information For Guests

The rooms are all en-suite and include a private balcony, bedside fan, mosquito nets, in-room safe and wooden wardrobe. Please note that the rooms do not have air conditioning.

The main area has a restaurant, bar, lounge and a swimming pool facing the ocean.

There is free Wi-Fi available. It does cover the whole hotel but the best reception is in the restaurant.

Some of the activities available include tours to Stone Town and Prison Island. Visits to the Spice Farm, Jozani Forest and Safari Blue excursions are also available.

You can also go scuba diving or snorkelling through the dive centre - Dive Point Zanzibar (transfers are provided).

Tanzania has a large Muslim population on the island of Zanzibar. Modesty of dress is expected when outside the hotel's grounds. Trousers are entirely acceptable, but short skirts and bare arms should be avoided. Scarves must be worn over the head (and shoes removed) when entering a mosque.
