Laikipia Plateau
Nestled in the valley between the dramatic slopes of Mount Kenya and the rolling peaks of the Aberdare Mountains, Solio Lodge is located on the Solio Reserve, which is home to a diverse and numerous population of wildlife. The ranch spreads over 45,000 acres with a 17,000 acre game conservancy.
There are morning and evening game drives in the reserve. Guests can also take guided walks and explore on horseback. Fishing and helicopter flights can be arranged.
Solio Game Reserve is internationally recognized as the most successful private rhinoceros breeding reserve in Kenya. It is home to over 74 black and 155 white rhinoceros which live in harmony with other wildlife including buffalo, zebra, giraffe and other game species such as eland, oryx, impala, waterbuck, Thomson gazelle and warthog.
The big cats include lion, leopard and cheetah, and Solio also has some of the best leopard viewing in the country. The area is also very good for bird watching.
The lodge has just 5 cosy and luxurious rooms, each en-suite with large glass pane windows to take in the panoramic views of the landscape which is framed by Mount Kenya.
Each room has a private lounge area warmed by a corner fire, as well as large bathrooms with double sink, bath and shower.
The rooms are designed for warmth (Solio is high in altitude and can be cold at night), as well as outdoor living with each having a deck in front for relaxation during the day.
