The main camp complex is the heart of Royal Malewane. African thatched-roof buildings house the library, shop, dining and reception areas. Furnished with rich antiques and Persian carpets, every fitting creates the feel of original colonial elegance.

There is a wonderful gym and spa facility offering health and skincare therapy. Guests may enjoy a treatment of their choice at the luxurious spa or in the sala, or they may relax with a treatment in the complete privacy of their own suite.

Each of the private suites rest in harmony with its magnificent surroundings, with a rich deck wood terrace, thatched gazebo and spillway pool finding easy residence in nature.

The suites feature a palatial air-conditioned bedroom/sitting room with a fireplace, antique furniture and canopied kingsize bed as well as an extravagant bathroom with a window-side Victorian bath and indoor and outdoor showers.

Elevated walkways link the suites to the main camp.

Directions For Drivers

From Eastgate/Hoedspruit Airport: Turn left and proceed along this road. After about 15 km, turn right at the Thornybush signboard into Guernsey Road, continue right down this road (going past the Thornybush and Jackalberry gates) until you reach a T-junction. Turn left onto the R531 towards the Orpen Gate and you will see the signs to Royal Malewane after a few kilometers. Turn left at the signs, and follow the road to the gate.

All visitors have to pay a cash Conservation fee of R50 per person (subject to change) to enter the reserve.

Once inside the gate, follow the signs to the lodge through the reserve. Allow about 20-30 minutes to drive from the gate to the lodge.

Do not get out of your car until you reach the lodge. You may see some wildlife on your way - if you do, slow down and maintain a good distance. Do not drive off-road in any circumstances.

From Hazyview: Follow the R40 towards Klaserie. Turn right onto the R531 towards the Orpen Gate and follow the directions as above.

From Kruger National Park/Orpen Gate: Exit the Park, and continue along the R531. Turn right at the Royal Malewane signs, and follow the directions as above.

From Johannesburg/Pretoria: Take the N12 or N4 highway to Witbank/eMalahleni (from Johannesburg Airport, follow signs to Boksburg to find the N12). Follow the N4 highway past Middleburg (Toll Plaza), Belfast/eMakhazeni and Machadodorp (Toll Plaza). Follow the Schoemanskloof option on the N4 and then take the R36 to Lydenburg/Mashishing.

Follow the R36 to Ohrigstad, go through the Strydom Tunnel and take the R527 to Hoedspruit. Turn right onto the R40 towards Klaserie, and continue along this road until you see the turning off to the left for Eastgate Airport. Turn left here and follow the directions as above.
