Situated on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, Pongwe Beach Hotel is a true paradise retreat, set within a secluded bay on the east coast of Zanzibar. 

The bay's clear blue waters - protected by the reef one kilometre from the shore - are ideal for swimming and snorkelling, or the hotel has a gorgeous infinity pool which overlooks Pongwe Cove. If the midday sun becomes too strong you can retreat into the shade of the palm trees that line the white sandy beach, and sip a long, cool drink.

Scuba diving can be arranged whether it be a day dive or a Padi open water course, as can fishing trip. The hotel also offers complimentary kayaks and mountain bikes.

The restaurant offers daily changing menus, and the bar has a wide selection of cocktails, beers, wines and soft drinks to choose from.

The resort's beautiful gardens surround the Zanzibarian en-suite rooms. There are garden view rooms with a private terrace, beach front rooms with sunbeds on a private terrace, or sea view suites with private plunge pools.  In each room you will find various local hand crafted Zanzibarian doors and traditional beds, and Moroccan style walk in showers.

There is also a two bedroom Family Beach Front Suite.

General Information For Guests

All room have mosquito nets, ceiling fans and beach towels.

There are 3 different room types spread around the property - some on the white sands and others within the well tended tropical gardens. All rooms are tastefully decorated in authentic African art and offer a range of facilities while still incorporating eco-friendly principles. The suites offer a stunning private plunge pool.

Pongwe Beach is lucky in the fact that the whole beach is protected by an offshore reef which keeps the inner waters calm and safe for all to swim in. Snorkelling and boat trips can also be arranged to the reef.

As with many Zanzibar beaches the area is tidal but there is a beautiful infinity pool for guests to enjoy when the tide is out.

Tanzania has a large Muslim population on the island of Zanzibar. Modesty of dress is expected when outside the hotel's grounds. Trousers are entirely acceptable, but short skirts and bare arms should be avoided. Scarves must be worn over the head (and shoes removed) when entering a mosque.
