South Luangwa National Park
Set inside the South Luangwa National Park, just 5 minutes drive from the main gate, Mfuwe Lodge's allure is instantly obvious. Beneath a canopy of ebony and mahogany, the chalets are arranged around the banks of 2 lagoons, where an endless stream of wildlife will keep you enthralled from the comfort of your room.
The game-viewing potential at Mfuwe Lodge and the surrounding area is second-to-none. Walking safaris can be arranged on request, but the majority of outings are game drives, allowing guests to explore as much of this prolific region of the Luangwa Valley as possible. Drives are led by an experienced team of gudes setting out at first light, and then again in the late afternoon when the wildlife is at its most active. After sundowners, spotlights are used to pick out a new cast of nocturnal creatures.
The airy interior of the lodge is an exquisite complement to its natural surroundings. The main lodge area consists of a lounge, dining and bar areas under a thatch roof supported by palm poles and dominated by 2 impressive chimneys at opposite ends. There is a broad timber deck where there is a swimming pool. Right next to this is a library with a photography studio, and a private deck if you want to have a quiet read. Just outside there is the Bush Spa offering relaxing and healing treatments overlooking the hippo lagoon below.
A distinctive feature of the lodge is that each year whole families of elephants have been regular guests for a number of years, visiting between late October and mid-December to feast on the fallen fruits from the large Wild Mango tree in the lodge grounds.
The 18 air conditioned chalets all have their own secluded covered verandas looking out over wallowing hippo and thirsty game in the lagoons,as well as a comfortable sitting room and en-suite bathroom with a panoramic walk-in shower. In addition, the Directors House is a private 2 bedroomed villa with its own swimming pool, outdoor deck and dining area.
The lodge is open all year round, making Mfuwe the perfect place to enjoy excellent game viewing and recharge your batteries
