Karatu Simba Lodge is an eco-friendly lodge situated deep in the farming area of the Karatu district. Located about a 30 minute drive from the gate of Lake Manyara National Park, and approximately 4 km off the main road to the entry of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area , the lodge is situated next to the Ngorongoro Forest.
Both the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara are worthwhile additions to any Tanzania safari circuit.
The Ngorongoro Crater is on many peoples bucket list of places to see and visit. This natural wonder is the largest unflooded, intact volcanic caldera in the world. The actual crater is about 20 km across and 600 meters deep, and covers 300 sq km. Within the rim there are an estimated 30,000 animals, making this one of the densest concentration of wildlife within Africa.
The Lake Manyara National Park is renowned for its excellent bird-watching opportunities in general, as more than 400 different bird species have been recorded. Other wildlife includes elephant, buffalo, cheetah, hippo, Masai giraffe, wildebeest, impala, zebra, warthogs, large troops of baboons, and the legendary but rarely seen tree-climbing lions.
Karatu Simba Lodge is a welcome retreat after a long day on safari. On arrival you’ll receive a warm welcome from the lodge staff, a refreshing drink and a towel to rinse away the dust of your journey. Take a swim in the pool with its views over fields and forest, or take advantage of the complimentary Wi-Fi to keep in touch with friends and family. The only sounds are the distant whistling of the boys herding their cattle, and the chatter and twittering of birds. After dinner, huddle around the campfire at nightfall and see the Southern Cross suspended in the sky over the distant Mbulu Hills.
Accommodation is in individual twin, double or triple cottages or rondavels with canvas walls and a solid attached bathroom and shower, tastefully and simply decorated with hand made furniture of African hardwood. Each unit has its own deck with safari chairs for relaxing and enjoying the views.
Please note: this lodge is not suitable for guests with walking difficulties or who are wheelchair bound.

General Information For Guests
All rooms are en-suite with a shower and mosquito nets over the bed. Full amenities are provided and the rooms are solar powered with solar heated water and a power strip for battery charging.
Each room has a torch/flashlight and umbrella for guests to use. A whistle is also provided in case guests need to alert a security guard.
Due to the solar electrical system, it is not possible to use a hair dryer at the lodge - the lodge asks that guests do not try to plug in a hair dryer as in all likelihood it will blow the entire system resulting in a loss of power to the entire lodge.
As the solar lighting may be dimmer, guests are advised to bring a headlamp or 'book light' for reading at night.
There is a pool and sundeck.
There is complimentary Wi-Fi in the main guest areas.
There is no wheelchair access at the lodge.
