Pilanesberg National Park
Pilanesburg National Park is an attractive 50,000 hectare malaria-free area which is centred around an extinct volcano crater. Today, the Park is home to over 7,000 animals including the Big 5, giraffe, hippo, zebra, jackal, hyena and many antelope, and there are also over 350 bird species.
At Kwa Maritane, guests experience excellent game sightings on bush walks or on daily sunrise and afternoon game drives in the company of qualified guides. The game viewing vehicles will seat between 18 and 22 people.
Guests can also choose to head into the Park in their own car should they wish to - self-drive permits are available to purchase directly from the Main Reception Desk at the lodge.
As well as game drives, the lodge has many entertainment options on offer - from tennis courts to 2 magnificent swimming pools and outdoor chess.
And with Sun City minutes away, guests can enjoy a game of golf at the Gary Player course or choose between bowls, squash, ten-pin bowling and an exceptional variety of water sports.
All the necessary comforts have been taken into consideration when furnishing the 91 en-suite rooms.
All rooms have air-conditioning, satellite TV, direct dialling phone, tea/coffee making machines and a hair dryer.
There is a shuttle service between the lodge and Sun City.

Directions For Drivers
From Johannesburg International Airport: Leave the airport and follow the signs for the R21 north to Pretoria. After approximately 45 km the R21 merges with the N1, continue on this road until you reach the junction with the N4 Toll Road. Take the N4 westbound towards Pretoria, Brits, and Rustenberg.
Continue on the N4 for approximately 55 km (past the Brits turn-off) until you reach the junction with the R556 signposted Pilanesburg/Sun City. Continue on the R556 for approximately 75 km towards Sun City. You should see Kwa Maritane distance markers every 10 km along this stretch. About 5 km from the Sun City entrance, take the right turn towards Kwa Maritane/Mogwase/Pilanesberg Airport. Travel approximately 2 km along this road and the Kwa Maritane Gate will be on your left.
From Sandton (Johannesburg): Leave Sandton on Sandton Drive heading towards William Nicol Drive. Turn right at the junction with William Nicol Drive, and contine to head North for approximately 8 km until you reach the flyover over the N1 Western Bypass.
Continue along William Nicol Drive until you reach the Monte Casino on your right, and the Fourways Mall on ahead and on your left. Turn left off William Nicol onto Cedar Road just before the Fourways Mall, and then at the T junction at the end of Cedar turn left and then first right (signposted Sun City). At the end of this road, turn right at the T-junction onto the R512.
The R512 takes you through Broederstroom and past Hartbeestpoort Dam and Kosmos. There are several T-junctions and turnings on the route, but at each one keep following the R512 signs. Shortly after Kosmos turn left at a crossroads (still signposted R512), and continue past the Elephant Sanctuary on your left. The R512 becomes the R104 - continue on this road ignoring the signs to Pilanesburg until you reach the junction with the R556.
Turn right onto the R556, and follow the directions as above.
From Sun City: From the Sun City Main Entrance, turn left and follow the signs to Kwa Maritane.
General Information For Guests
The rooms all have en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, mini-bar, tea / coffee making facilities, safe, satellite / cable television and complimentary wi-fi. Room service is available from 7 am to 10 pm.
The Kwa Lefikeng Restaurant is open daily, and serves buffet meals for breakfast and dinner, and an a la carte menu for lunch;

The Kwa Mazout bar and loung area is situated between reception and the restaurant, conveniently close to the main pool area. Local or international sports will be aired on the TV
The spa offers a range of treatments and has four treatment rooms, including one suite suitable for couples. There is also a manicure and pedicure lounge, a rasul chamber, relaxation area and hydro pool.
Other services include: covered parking, babysitting and cots, 2 bomas, 2 tennis courts, 2 swimming pools, children's playground, table tennis, volleyball, outdoor chess, trampoline, bush putt putt golf, pool table, the Wildlife Centre, and game drives.
Morning and afternoon game drive times are as follows (subject to change):
January - March: Morning drives at 5.30 am and afternoon drives at 4.30 pm.
April: Morning drives at 6 am and afternoon drives at 4 pm.
May: Morning drives at 8 am and afternoon drives at 3.30 pm.
June / July: Morning drives at 8 am and afternoon drives at 3 pm.
August: Morning drives at 8 am and afternoon drives at 3.30 pm.
September: Morning drives at 6 am and afternoon drives at 4 pm.
October - December: Morning drives at 5.30 am and afternoon drives at 4.30 pm.
Your package may be for accommodation and meals only, or may include either one or two game drives per day - please check your voucher for confirmation of what is included in your stay.
Additional activities can be booked at the Wildlife Centre.
The lodge also offers the unique experience of a 150 metre underground tunnel leading to a wildlife hide. This is a perfect vantage point that looks onto a watering hole and the park. There is also a channel in all of the rooms that show a live feed of the waterhole.
Guests at Kwa Maritane are welcome to use the lodge as a base to self-drive into the Pilanesberg National Park. Park entrance fees for self-drive visitors are as follows (subject to change): Adults: R80 per person; Pensioners: R40 per person; Children: R30 per person; Vehicles: R40 per vehicle; International Visitors Levy: R 30.
