Tsavo National Park, which covers nearly 22,000 km2, is the largest National Park in Kenya. Being so close to Mombasa (less than 100 km), it is an ideal destination for anyone wanting to combine the thrill of a safari with some relaxing beach time. It is also very easy to combine Tsavo with a stay in the Amboseli National Park, for those wanting a 2 centre safari holiday.
With a spectacular backdrop of the snowy peak of Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli National Park is most famous for its elephant population, where herds of up to 100 can be found drinking at one of the swampy springs that filter up through the rock from an endless underground water supply directly from Kili’s ice cap.
The Samburu National Reserve is located about 6 hours north of Nairobi, and alongside the usual safari tick list of lion, elephant and cheetah, you may also see the 'Samburu Special Five' - Somali ostrich, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra and Beisa oryx - which are only found in this area. It is a unique game viewing experience.
The Masai Mara National Reserve (or The Mara as it is also known as) is one of the most popular and most visited African game reserves. A true ‘Out of Africa’ safari destination, the reserve and the surrounding conservancies are mostly made up of open plains baked golden by the African sun, and the sheer density of game and birdlife makes this an exciting and rewarding safari destination for first-timers or for returning safari enthusiasts.
