Ishasha Wilderness Camp

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Day 1: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Ishasha Wilderness Camp Location Map

Ishasha Wilderness Camp is situated in the Ishasha sector of the Queen Elizabeth National Park on the Ntungwe River, and is an idyllic retreat for people who truly enjoy the wilderness. This exclusive camp offers quality accommodation and services in this unspoilt remote southern sector of the Park, which is famous for its tree climbing lions that can sometimes be spotted resting in the branches of the large fig trees in the area.

As the camp is within the National Park, it has been designed to be as low impact as possible with low usage of water, power and other resources. Solar power is used for lighting, and power points are limited to a central area where guests can recharge their camera batteries.

Meals are freshly prepared and offer a balance of international and locally flavoured cuisine across delicious courses. The bar has a selection of local and imported beverages.

Hot beverages are available throughout the day on a self-service basis, and are delivered to your tent with early morning wake up calls if required, allowing you to savour the early morning sounds of the ‘bush’ awakening while enjoying a fine cup of coffee or tea on your private verandah.

Each of the 10 spacious framed canvas rooms, situated in the wooded area beside the river, are comfortably furnished with large mosquito netted beds, a private dressing area and en-suite bathroom providing running water, hot water ‘bush’ showers and a flushing eco-friendly toilet.

A central lounge and dining area, under a cool thatched roof, provides a comfortable environment for meals and relaxing during the day. A shaded area beside the river offers al fresco dining and an evening ‘fireplace’ is the perfect meeting place for all guests to relax with a sundowner drink and share their day's experiences.

Days 2 - 3: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Ishasha Wilderness Camp Location Map

Overlooking the primeval Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Bwindi Lodge offers a truly unique Uganda jungle safari experience. Separated by nothing more than an idyllic stream, the gorillas themselves are frequent visitors to the lodge itself.

There are 3 gorilla families that can be easily tracked from Bwindi Lodge in the Buhoma Sector of the forest, just a 5 minutes walk from the lodge. Guests can also track 3 other gorilla families from the Ruhija sector, a 2 hour drive from the lodge.

After your gorilla trek, in the afternoon why not take a walk to the river through the lush grounds of the lodge and take a dip in a refreshing river pool, or head deeper into the forest with a guide on the Waterfall trail to 3 beautiful waterfalls. A tea tour is also offered to the local tea plantation, where you get to sample the fine teas at the end of the tour, or visit the local village and community hospital.

There are 8 bandas facing the forest canopy, each with a private terrace from which you can spot wildlife, including chimpanzees, mountain gorillas, and monkeys jumping from tree to tree mere metres away. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and the eco-luxury comforts are all provided in eco-sensitive ways.

The main guest lounge and dining area bring the feel of the forest into the stylish interiors. The main living area has a central fireplace which acts as a focal point for guests to relax and discuss their gorilla tracking experience. An outdoor terrace gives dramatic views of the impenetrable forest and is a great place to spot the monkeys and birds hidden in the foliage.
