Suggested Holiday Itinerary
Summary Of The Route and Costs
Follow in the footsteps of the legendary Norman Carr, a true pioneer in progressive conservation. Combining an unspoilt wilderness of tranquil rivers, ancient forests and open pans, this itinerary offers an authentic and immersive once-in-a-lifetime walking safari experience that celebrates the wilderness and allows guests to reconnect with nature in a meaningful way. Please note that this itinerary is seasonal, and therefore only available between 20 May and 31 October.
Walking from bush camp to bush camp, you get to explore and discover the untamed beauty and wildlife of the South Luangwa in the company of an experienced guide, who will share their knowledge of fauna and flora. Every step will be thrilling, as you quietly approach a herd of elephant, or sneak up on a giraffe browsing in the tall trees.
In addition, for one night you set up camp on the white sand of the dry Luwi river bed, with only the wildlife and stars for company. This is truly a night and experience you will never forget, as you are lulled to sleep by the distant call of the hyena or lion, with just a mosquito net between you and the starry African sky.
But it is not all about walking and sleep outs. For your last 2 nights, you will be staying at Chinzombo - a wildly luxurious camp which still retains its bush authenticity with grass and canvas walls but with private plunge pools and spacious living areas that melt into the exquisitely tranquil riverside setting.
And if all that is still not enough, maybe the offer of 2 free nights might entice you? All you pay on 2 of the nights are the Park fees - your accommodation is completely complimentary.

On arrival at Mfuwe Airport, you will be met by your guide and you will be transferred by road to the South Luangwa National Park.
Situated deep in the National Park on the seasonal Luwi River, Luwi Camp is wonderfully remote, with no other camps or people for miles around. Tranquility envelops this camp, creating a wilderness haven that allows guests to reconnect with nature in a meaningful way.
South Luangwa National Park
You will depart after breakfast with your guide and an armed scout, and walk to Nsolo Bush Camp. Your luggage will be transferred by vehicle while you are out on the walk so all you need to worry about is carrying water! The walk is at a leisurely pace and you don't need a high level of fitness. The distance from camp to camp is approximately 8-9 km and you will arrive at Nsolo Bush Camp in time for lunch. One of the more historical safari camps in Zambia, Nsolo Camp is the quintessential 'barefoot luxury' experience. Nestled along the banks of the seasonal Luwi River, a permanent river lagoon attracts a daily parade of wildlife that guests can watch from their private decks. You can then enjoy an afternoon game drive from the camp after lunch.
South Luangwa National Park
This morning, depart on a morning game drive and return to the camp for brunch. You will then set off on an afternoon walk, but this time not to your next camp - instead your destination is the dry Luwi River Bed, where a fly camp will be waiting for you. After dinner around the camp fire, you retire to your camp bed under nothing but a mosquito net and the starry African sky. But don't worry - your room at Nsolo will still be there should you decide this is not for you, and you will be transferred back should you prefer this.
South Luangwa National Park
After breakfast in the river bed, depart on a walk to Kakuli Bush Camp. Your luggage will be waiting there for you on arrival. The walk is about 12 km, so you will arrive in time for a late lunch, followed by a rest and then if you wish, you can depart on an afternoon game drive. Perched high above the Luangwa River, Kakuli Camp offers impressive vistas of the river's many visitors below. Designed to celebrate the panoramic scenery, a stay at Kakuli is a truly awe-inspiring experience.
South Luangwa National Park
Depart after breakfast and walk to your next camp - Mchenja. The walk today is approximately 8 km. Flanked by a grove of towering ebony trees on one side and the Luangwa River on the other, Mchenja Camp offers luxury in the heart of the National Park. Overlooking a wide river expanse, Mchenja is wonderful for watching large herds of elephants crossing the Luangwa.
South Luangwa National Park
After breakfast, you will be transferred by game vehicle to your final destination - Chinzombo.
Situated on a sweeping curve of the Luangwa River, Chinzombo brings style and sophistication to the Luangwa Valley. Each suite offers panoramic views of the Luangwa River and the abundant wildlife that frequents its banks. Sprawling, ancient shade trees and private plunge pools offer comfort and relaxation.
