An African Odyssey

Summary Of The Route and Costs

Covering 3 countries in 12 nights, this trip is rich in eye-opening, jaw-dropping experiences. It's a deluxe adventure that will let you feast your eyes upon world-class cities, thundering waterfalls and incredible wildlife. Beginning in Cape Town, a spectacular city with an incredible backdrop, you'll fly up to Pretoria before boarding Rovos Rail for 3 nights of pure indulgence and you steam into the heart of Southern Africa. Here you'll follow in Livingstone's footsteps to the crashing beauty of Victoria Falls, staying in the distinguished hotel fondly known as ‘the grand old lady of the Falls'. Next, you'll fly across to Botswana for a Big Five safari through the breathtaking forests and rivers of Chobe National Park.

Your trip starts with 3 nights in Cape Town. Cape Town is one of the world's most beautiful cities - with a magnificent mountain as its centre, miles of sandy beaches, a colourful and moving history, and countless bars and restaurants, Cape Town captures the hearts of visitors. Your hotel is located in the very heart of the historic V&A Waterfont and is a sophisticated retreat amid the buzzzy atmosphere.

You then fly up to Johannesburg - a short 2 hour flight - and you are transferred to the Jacaranda City, Pretoria - where you overnight briefly before being transferred to the Rovos Rail Station the next morning for your epic 3 night train journey to the majestic Victoria Falls (PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS JOURNEY DEPARTS ONLY ON SELECTED DATES). You cross the Tropic of Capricorn en-route, and enjoy a ride aboard both the train and a game vehicle through the Hwange Natonal Park.

Your 2 night stay at the Falls is at the iconic Victoria Falls Hotel. The Edwardian-style 5* hotel, built in 1904, combines the charm of the old with the convenience of the new. Set in lush tropical gardens with lily ponds, palm trees and semi-tropical shrubs, it provides the tranquillity and seclusion that many guests seek. The 'smoke that thunders' or 'Mosi-O-Tunya' in the local dialect, is clearly audible and visible from this luxurious landmark.

You are then transferred across the border into Botswana, for the last 3 nights of your trip at a 5* lodge in the Chobe National Park. The Chobe National Park is most famous for its elephant population. Today, it is home to an estimated 100,000 elephants - which is believed to be the highest concentration of elephants found anywhere in the world.

But it is not only elephants that live here in huge numbers - hippos are plentiful, and float lazily in the Chobe River during the day, emerging at dusk to graze along the river banks. Large herds of buffalo, zebra and lechwe (a type of antelope) are also common sightings. Lion are never far away and are often seen in large prides, lazing around in the shade during the heat of the day and slowly awakening themselves at dusk. Hyena and leopard also hunt at night and are often seen once the sun goes down, whilst another predator, the cheetah, can be seen stalking its prey during the day. The area is also renowned for its rich birdlife, especially around the numerous waterways - in fact, over 450 species have been documented.
