Island-Hopping in the Seychelles

An island-hopping holiday in Seychelles is a route straight into a Robinson Crusoe style fantasy. It’s a world of giant pink boulders tumbling out of tropical jungle onto powdery white sands. Hopping from one sun-kissed slice of paradise to another, you’ll be overwhelmed by the beauty of Seychelles. It’s somewhere stunning to be stranded for a week or two.

The silky sand is cool and pearly white, the water is translucent and teeming with exotic marine life and the forecast is sunny all year round. Each tiny island is blessed with crescent swathes of brilliant white sand as well as hidden coves and secret bays. Wherever you stay, you really can’t go wrong.

But the beaches are merely the beginning. Behind the dazzling coastline, you’ll find an untamed Eden of tangled jungle vines, rare orchids, vanilla plants, and insect-eating pitcher planets. The Seychelles is the only place in the world where the gigantic coco de mer grows, a very sexy coconut shaped like a female pelvis. The wildlife is just as astonishing, with giant tortoises, endangered bats and a colourful array of rare birds calling the islands their home.

If you’re spending 5 days or less in the Seychelles, we recommend choosing one island as a base and taking day trips across the neighbouring islands. This will give you a chance to really relax and settle into the ultra-slow Seychelles pace of life. From the main islands, such as Mahé or Praslin, you can take an excellent assortment of island hopping day tours. Alternaively, if you’re eager to explore further afield, you can stay on the idyllic Denis Island or Desroches Island in the Outer Seychelles and explore the coral Amirantes from there.

If you’re one of the lucky ones, with more than a week in the Seychelles to play with, we recommend setting off on an exotic island hopping adventure. Spending a few nights on 2 or 3 different islands will give you paradise from all perspectives. Each island has an atmosphere all of its own, so island hopping is a great way to get to know the Seychellois culture. Not only this, but each one has unique natural charms that set it apart from the surrounding islands.
