Zambezi Sands River Camp is situated in the Zambezi National Park on the banks of the Zambezi River, about an hour upstream from the Victoria Falls.
Zambezi Sands offers a wealth of picturesque game viewing opportunities and the experienced guides take great pleasure in introducing you to the camp’s pristine and tranquil surroundings. Game drives are conducted in open Land Cruisers which seat up to 9 guests or in open Land Rovers which seat up to 7 guests. Guided walks are usually undertaken in the mornings, and offer wonderful photographic opportunties of the wildlife, both big and very little.
A guided canoe trip along the mighty Zambezi River in the network of islands close to the camp is also a fun way to whittle away the afternoon, as you paddle through hippo and croc-infested waters and delight at the abundant bird life.
However, relaxing in your private deck splash pool whilst overlooking the Zambezi is perhaps just as enjoyable! Elephant can be found loitering on the mainland or in the river, while hippo, waterbuck and bushbuck frequent the reed banks and islands. Lions can be heard calling at night and the birdlife is prolific - African finfoot, African skimmer, pratincoles and Pel’s fishing owl all occur here.
The main lodge and rooms are built on raised platforms with river views and private sun decks. There are 8 secluded Bedouin luxury tents - offering complete privacy - dotted along the river bank. The main camp area includes a dining room, lounge and bar. There is a shaded outdoor deck for enjoying alfresco dining with a view of the river.
Round off a wonderful day with a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River amongst the islands near the lodge - enjoy the river, its wildlife and a Zambezi sunset with complimentary drinks and snacks. It is common to see elephant, hippo, crocodile and a variety of birdlife.
