North Luangwa National Park
Takwela Camp offers an intimate wilderness experience and the opportunity to visit this beautiful and unexplored area of the North Luangwa.
The camp is situated at the confluence of the Luangwa and Mwaleshi Rivers with stunning views of a resident hippo pod and pristine bush on all sides.
Activities that can be enjoyed during a stay at this camp include guided game drives and walking safaris in the mornings and afternoons, with regular stops to take in the surroundings, view the wildlife and examine their tracks. Enjoy a leisurely pace with a mid-morning tea and coffee breaks and on the night drive, a sundowner stop by the river to watch the sunset and the night sky appear.
The North Luangwa itself is home to a highly successful black rhino sanctuary and has healthy populations of lion, hyena, elephant, buffalo, leopard, wildebeest, wild dog and much more.
With just 2 other bush camps in operation in the entire Park, guests staying at Takwela are guaranteed the ultimate remote experience.
Takwela Camp accommodates a maximum of 4 guests in 2 en-suite chalets, with 2 double beds in each.
The camp is seasonal, so is only open from July until the end of October.

General Information For Guests
The camp is solar powered and built, primarily, from local natural materials and constructed with local skills.
The camp has a solar communal charging area (220V).
The rooms have solar fans.
There is no Wi-Fi available.
There is an open ‘wafwa’ in front of camp from which to view wildlife.
Activities include guided game drives (day and night) and walking safaris in the mornings and afternoons, with regular stops to take in the surroundings, view wildlife and examine spoor.
From Mfuwe Airport to Mwaleshi Airstrip is about a 40 minute flight (via a Remote Africa Safaris charter plane); from Lukuzi Airstrip to Mwaleshi Airstrip is about a 30 minute flight (via a Remote Africa Safaris charter plane). From the Mwaleshi Airstrip, it is then a 45 minute game drive in an open 4x4 safari vehicle followed by a short 5 minute canoe crossing then a 5 minute walk to get to the camp.
