Shipwreck Lodge

Shipwreck Lodge

The Skeleton Coast

Shipwreck Lodge Location Map

Located in the famous Skeleton Coast Central Concession, and nestled between the dunes with a view of the Atlantic Ocean is where you will find Shipwreck Lodge. This is a perfect retreat for those who wish to see the beauty of Namibia's coastline that never fails to impress. The lodge is situated on the southern bank of the Huarusib River Mouth where the cold Benguela current pushes a refreshing breeze over the shipwreck shaped cabins.

There are daily excursions by vehicle to the Mowe Bay seal colony. Guests can also be shown the remnants of the Suiderkus Shipwreck, and further along the beach past the remains of the Karimona shipwreck is the abandoned Westies diamond mine. There are also the remains of the Ventura Bomber, or venture further to the beautiful natural wind shelters created by the reeds to view the Flamingo pools.

A full day Huarusib River excursion involves a 4x4 trip to the Clay castles, a natural geological formation where brown hyenas are often encountered. Guests that are fortunate enough could possibly see the desert adapted elephants and lions.

Fishing excursions can also be arranged. The Namibian Coast is a fisherman’s paradise and guests can enjoy exclusive use of the area. If guests are successful then the chefs can prepare the fresh catch for dinner (fishing permit included and weather permitting).

Finally, finish the day with a 'must do' excursion to the Oasis water point for sundowners. Surrounded by roaring waves, red dunes and stunning views, this will be an experience to savour.

The lodge offers 8 twins/doubles and 2 family cabins. All the cabins are en-suite and solar powered with a shower, toilet and washbasin complimented with the necessary guest amenities, including a writing desk, bedside lamp and a wood burning stove. A small coffee/tea station with a hot water flask (delivered to your room by the staff) is included for your convenience.

The lodge consists of the restaurant, dining area and an outdoor viewing deck/veranda. Morning coffee or evening sundowners are served here but if it gets a bit chilly then retreat inside and enjoy the views of this harsh and beautiful landscape.
