The Serengeti
Serengeti Sopa Lodge is nestled in an acacia woodland on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the plains of the south-western Serengeti National Park, one of the most famous Parks in the world, and host to the largest and most spectacular annual migration of the wildebeest.
But the game viewing here is not only just about this naturally occurring phenomenon. The Serengeti also offers what many people consider to be some of the best game viewing in Africa. Large herds of buffalo, thousands of antelope such as eland, impala, gazelles, topi and kongoni, and family groups of zebra and giraffe are closely watched by eager predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah and spotted hyena, who are always on the look out for a quick and easy meal. The lobby is furnished with large comfortable chairs made out of driftwood, huge cushions and colourful throw pillows. The low ceiling has wooden beams across and the pillars holding it are shaped like huge pots stacked together. Beautiful metallic wall lamps with soft lighting complete the overall, warm and intimate effect.
There is an open dining area, which offers a magnificent view of the plains. Set in a corner with a view of the Serengeti plains also, the bar area is strategically placed with an uninterrupted view, and has a terrace for seating with comfortable chairs.
There are 69 standard en-suite rooms in total, all with 2 queensize beds, and tastefully furnished with local fabrics and pictures. On entering the room there is a lounge with a mini bar. In the front is a verandah with 2 comfortable chairs and coffee table, with glass windows facing the vast Serengeti plains which extend as far as the naked eye can see.
There is also 4 very spacious double storey suites, with a lounge area on the ground floor where one can dine, sit out on the balcony facing the Serengeti Plains. Upstairs is the bedroom with a kingsize bed on a raised wooden platform, and on one side a bathtub facing the plains. There is an outside open shower as well. A verandah extends from the room facing the plains, ideal for relaxing and watching the wildlife.
