Sanctuary Kusini is situated in the southern Serengeti. Giraffe, gazelle, hyena, buffalo, lion and cheetah are common sightings year-round, but it is during the Great Migration that the camp really comes to life. Every year between January and March, wildebeest and zebra congregate on the camp's "doorstep" in this unspoilt and remote part of the Serengeti during the calving season, before they begin their long trek northwards towards the green plains of Kenya's Masai Mara.
As well as enjoying game drives, guests staying at Sanctuary Kusini during these months also have the opportunity to experience an early morning balloon safari over the Serengeti Plains. Floating over the wildebeest migration just makes it that much more incredible and a must for those who want to experience the migration from all angles.
The camp itself is built on a rocky outcrop, or kopje, surrounded by woodland - providing stunning views of the plains below from the main deck. Enjoy cocktails served on top of the kopje after your evening game drive and watch as the sun sets over the vast Serengeti Plains. You might even see a night animal like an aardvark, an aardwolf or a bush baby.
Back at the lodge, the communal tent has a library, sitting room, dining room and verandah, as well as a camp fire for after-dinner drinks.
The 12 tents at Sanctuary Kusini are shaded from the sun by acacia trees, and all are positioned carefully with views of the surrounding plains. Each tent has its own personal attendant to look after guests during their stay. The private wooden verandah with comfortable furniture is the ideal spot to relax for a sundowner after a hot shower.
Like all Sanctuary properties, Sanctuary Kusini is designed to have minimal environmental impact.
