Ngorongoro Crater
Situated on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, Pakulala Safari Camp is a tented camp set in one of the most beautiful areas in the Ngorongoro Highlands with stunning views overlooking the crater.
As a small and intimate camp the staff are on hand just to look after a very limited number of guests and so the level of attention and service is always excellent.
The Ngorongoro Crater is on many peoples ‘wish list’ of places to see and visit. This natural wonder is the largest unflooded, intact volcanic caldera in the world. The actual crater is about 20 km across and 600 meters deep, and covers 300 km². Within the rim there are an estimated 30,000 animals, making this one of the densest concentration of wildlife within Africa.
If you choose to stay here longer, the camp has easy access to cultural attractions or can be used as a base for a walk to climb the slopes of nearby Olmoti mountain to the waterfall that breaches its rim to then become the Munge River that feeds a game swamp in the crater. Day trips to one of the most scenically attractive areas of the Conservation Area, Empakai, with its deep lake famous for its flamingos and shore birds and outstanding beauty, can also be arranged, as can visits to the Masai community neighbours - just a 45 minute walk from the camp.
All 11 tents are en-suite and tastefully furnished in an elegant style very reminiscent of the turn of the century safaris. The bathroom has a bucket shower and flushing eco-toilet, and an original local handmade wash basin and mirror. Every tent also has safari chairs to enjoy the starry Tanzanian night from while you relax and mull over your day on your porch.
The main camp has a dining tent for breakfast, lunch and romantic candle-lit dinners, and a campfire area with stunning views across the crater.
