Experienced rangers and trackers will lead you on interpretive game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles across the reserve. Guests can enjoy sightings of massive herds of elephant and buffalo as well as the rare and majestic sable antelope. The reserve is also home to lion, spotted hyena, African wild dog and leopard. Matetsi is one of the very few areas in Zimbabwe where night game-drives are permitted, revealing a host of interesting nocturnal animals.

Set beneath the thick canopies of a vast riverine forest, the lodge comprises two intimate river-facing camps consisting of 9 suites each, of which two are family suites. Here generosity of space and absolute privacy are a given, with a bold sequence of architectural spaces and contemporary interiors defined by an earthy yet sophisticated mix of textured latte screens, contemporary blonde basketry, warm tactile wood and the lustre of copper. All suites are air-conditioned and come with sumptuous King-size four-poster beds, generous bathtubs, indoor and outdoor rain showers as well as a private plunge pool and deck. Each suite is perfectly appointed so as to capitalize on the lodge's private river frontage.

In addition, there is a 4 bedroomed exclusive-use villa, is perfect for families or groups travelling together. It has its own kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining areas, a veranda overlooking the Zambezi and a sparkling pool. It also comes with its own dedicated staff, including a chef, guide, private vehicle and a butler, ensuring a tailor-made stay unlike any other.

Rates Include

All meals, tea/coffee, 2 scheduled game-drives daily in an open 4x4 safari vehicle, accompanied by an experienced ranger and tracker OR canoeing OR river boat cruises on the Zambezi River and a laundry service are included.

Bush Walks / Walking Safaris

Children under the age of 6 years are not permitted on guided walks. A guided walk can last a couple of hours and involve walking over uneven terrain that may contain dangerous wildlife in potentially high temperatures. Guests may need to move quickly and for a sustained period through rough bush terrain if instructed to do so by their guide.

Regardless of age, the final decision on whether a guest can join a guided walk remains with the guide and lodge manager.

The Villa is en-suite, air conditioned and includes a hair dryer, mini bar, safe, lounge area and fridge. It also has a kitchean, fireplace and outdoor fire bowl.

The main area consists of the boma dining area, bar, lounge, swimming pool, fitness studio, massage sala, library, private wine cellar and curio shop.

The activities available at Matetsi include river boat crusies, canoeing, game drives (morning and evening), birdwatching, walking safaris, fishing and childrens activites.

Professional fishing and massages are available (additional cost).

iPads are available for guest to use.

Childminders are available but must be booked on the day of arrival. A rate of USD 5 per hour is payable at the lodge.

If paying for a Private Vehicle, children of any age may go on game drives, with access to sightings being at the discretion of the guide, based on the behavior of both child and animals. Greater distances to animals may be adhered to, or certain sightings may be avoided in order to ensure the safety of all. In the case of boating activities, the availability of boats may restrict private use and require forward planning.
