Masai Mara
Mara Explorer is situated on a broad, thickly forested bend of the Talek River in the very heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve. Their own all-weather airstrip means you can be in camp less than an hour after leaving the bustle of Nairobi.
This luxurious eco-friendly tented camp enjoys prime views of the spectacular wildebeest migration between July and September. During the remainder of the year, herds of elephant, giraffe and other animals can often be seen from your private veranda.
Guests staying here can enjoy three guided game drives into the Masai Mara National Reserve every day - one in the early morning from 06:00 to 09:00; a midmorning drive departing after breakfast; and finally the late afternoon drive from 15:30, returning to the camp at sunset. Or you can indulge in a full day game safari to the Mara River with a packed picnic breakfast and/or lunch. The 4x4 safari jeeps which are used for daily game safaris are specially modified to allow for more legroom and roof hatches open for the best game viewing and photography.
In addition, a two hour nature walk with a Masaai guide will give you the opportunity to see the bush from a different perspective, and learn more about the birds and the plants here.
Each of the 10 luxury tents are furnished in the classic 'Explorer' style of the grand African safaris, with fine hand-carved mahogany furniture, antique chests and historic prints. The luxurious en-suite bathrooms have twin basins and a Victorian claw-foot bathtub offers secluded open-air bathing - and a unique perspective of the African bush!
Each tent has its own river frontage and a verandah, as well as a personal tent attendant and a radio for tent service. The tents are well spaced, offering each guest total privacy.
