Lake Malawi
Kaya Mawa is situated at the head of a crescent-shaped rocky bay on the southern tip of Likoma Island. The name means 'maybe tomorrow' and is the perfect phrase for this wonderful retreat.
Likoma Island itself is found towards the north eastern part of Lake Malawi, and is linked to the rest of the world by a steamer service. The island is quite hilly in places, and baobabs are a common feature of the landscape. There is a small population of approximately 5,000 people, scattered in little villages throughout the tiny island.
Spend your days swimming at the beach or in the swimming pool, or head to the spa for a relaxing treatment, or go out on a quad bike. Lake Malawi is renowned for some of the best freshwater snorkelling and diving in the world, and being an island Likoma is a perfect spot. Or fill your days with other water activities such as stand-up-paddle boarding, kayaking, wake boarding, kitesurfing, waterskiing, island boat trips and sailing.
Back at the lodge, the central lounge and dining area are the perfect locations for beach dinners or a relaxing lunch, with comfortable sofas with huge cushions, so you can listen to the water lap the shore whilst having a G&T.
Each of Kaya's 11 rooms, and private villa, is unique and offers something very special - including serene and secret decks for sunbathing or romantic dinners, and secluded lakeside chalets with private lounges. You may find yourself showering under the stars, taking a midnight dip in your private pool or simply walking hand-in-hand after a moonlit supper on the beach.
