Buffelsdrift Game Lodge

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is a sprawling game farm in the fertile Cango Valley at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains. Lush Karoo vegetation create a haven for a variety of game species including elephants, rhino and Cape buffalo (3 of the Big 5), giraffe, hippo, Cape Mountain zebra, eland, kudu and springbok.

Trained guides escort guests on early morning or late afternoon game drives (bush safari) in an open game viewing vehicle, with a pitstop at one of the lookout points - presenting the perfect opportunity for spectacular photographs and a chance to relax and enjoy the views.

Game viewing on horseback is also an option - guests will be escorted by a trained guide to get a closer view of game roaming the vast undulating hills. Or take a guided nature walk into the veld to appreciate the splendour of indigenous Karoo succulents and fynbos or catch up on their bird watching - enthusiastic bird watchers will enjoy trying to identify the more than 217 bird species to be found in the area, the ostrich of course being the easiest.

The elephant experience offers an opportunity to interact and feed the elephants. Get to know these gentle giants by name and their meanings from close up, feel the texture of their skin, scratch behind their ears and sit on an elephant's knee. You can also join the elephants for a early morning or late afternoon walk around the waterhole and watch the sun set on the horizon.

There are 34 free-standing luxury tents. Simply and stylishly decorated, they not only offer you a true bushveld experience, but real comforts of luxury accommodation. The 9 Waterhole Tents are perfect for those who enjoy the closeness of the water's edge.  The sundeck on each Waterhole Tent overlaps the waters edge and is the ideal spot to relax during your stay here. The 20 Luxury Horizon View Tents are set only a few metres away from the waterhole and provide an elevated view of the surroundings. They also have great views over the whole lodge area and is surrounded by true Karoo fynbos.

The 5 Family Tents have a spacious main room and a children's room with a shared en-suite bathroom separating the rooms.

There is also a swimming pool for relaxing around and enjoying the heat of the African sun.

Children Policy

Children of any age are welcome. Rates available on request. Children under 8 years of age are not permitted on the meerkat safaris activity.

General Information For Guests

All of the tents have full en-suite bathrooms, a private outdoor shower, air conditioning, an in-room safe, mini bar, hairdryer, telephone, tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary Wi-Fi.

The lodge has a lookout lounge, reception, wedding chapel, restaurant (a la carte and buffet), an open air bar, spa, swimming pool and a gift shop.

Activities that are available include morning and afternoon game drives, night drives, meerkat safaris, lion feeding and elephant interactions (additional cost).

Other activities include summer sundowner trips and star gazing.

The Spa at Buffelsdrift offers a range of different massages and treatments (additional cost).

The restaurant is open from 07:00 to 22:00.
