Waterberg Rest Camp

Waterberg Plateau

Waterberg Rest Camp Location Map

The Waterberg Plateau is one of the most spectacular features of the northern region. Towering some 200 metres above the surrounding landscape, the plateau with its sheer cliffs and fascinating rock formations is the habitat and breeding ground of several rare game species including rhinoceros, buffalo, and sable and roan antelope.

The plateau can be explored on foot by means of self-guided wilderness trials, or by vehicle on guided game-viewing excursions offered by conservation officials. Here tourists may enjoy one of the finest resorts in Namibia, the Waterberg Plateau Park Resort.

One of the Waterbergs many interesting facets is its diversity of flowering plants, trees and shrubs.

Enormous common cluster leaf figs form dense canopies in the vicinity of the springs, where ferns create a verdant undergrowth.

Among the rocky outcrops are splashes of brightly coloured lichens, of which there are over 140 species in the Waterberg.

Accommodation at Waterberg Rest Camp (formerly known as Bernabe de la Bat Rest Camp) is in bungalows, each with a kitchen equipped with a hot plate, kettle and refridgerator, but no crockery, cutlery or cooking utensils. Each bungalow has its own outside braai area.

Facilities at the camp include a restaurant, kiosk which is open outside restaurant hours and a swimming pool at the Rasthaus complex. Adjacent to the reception office is a shop which stocks basic groceries, beer and wine as well as wood and souvenirs.
