Basecamp Masai Mara Location Map

Discover the Masai Mara National Reserve from the eco-friendly Basecamp Masai Mara. Situated along the Talek River, which forms the natural border to the Masai Mara Reserve itself, you will find yourself sharing your time here with the birds and monkeys in the trees outside your tent.

The Masai Mara is renowned for its variety and richness - nowhere else on the planet will you experience such an abundance of wildlife. During your safari here you most certainly will encounter the Big Five - lion, cheetah, rhino, leopard and elephant - as well as numerous other mammals. From July/August to October the Mara welcomes the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti - one of the natural wonders of the world. Enjoy the spectacle from the safety of your comfortable safari vehicles.

While on safari your knowledgeable guide will introduce you to the life on the savannah and share their infinite knowledge about the African wildlife. As you drive into the wilderness, be captivated by the vast beauty of the savannah, with its rolling hills and infinite horizon.

Just as you wind up your afternoon game drive, your guide will set up for a sundowner drink. Enjoy a selection of drinks, cocktails and delicious snacks usually served against the unforgettable backdrop of the African sunset.

Bird walking safaris and cultural visits are additional activities that can also be arranged during a stay here.

Basecamp Masai Mara provides 17 riverside tents, all built along the banks of the Talek River and hidden away under thatched roofs.

All tents have a private veranda, and the bathroom is en-suite with a hot solar heated shower open to the sky. The dense riverbed foliage allows for maximum privacy and comfort, without compromising your view of the reserve across the river from your veranda.

The family tent has 2 separate wings, each featuring a double bed with a shared bathroom area.

The main camp area consists of a bar and a restaurant.

In an effort to revive the natural habitat, Basecamp has planted more than 70,000 indigenous trees around the Talek River. Consequently, Basecamp Masai Mara has turned into a tree lover’s paradise and a haven for birdlife.

Not far from the camp (about a 10 minute walk) you will find the thriving village of Talek, whose community has been close partner of Basecamp since the beginning. Cultural visits to the town are led by expert Masai Guides. Enjoy a unique opportunity to learn about the rich cultural heritage of the Masai as well as the challenges they face.

Basecamp has initiated several community programmes with the aim of empowering local people through capacity building, awareness raising and vocational training. While staying at the camp guests are encouraged to visit the handicraft centre, located next to reception, and to plant a tree in the tree plantation.

If you are on a Game Package, the transfer time from the airstrip to the camp is approximately 30 minutes.
