If you are looking for a holiday that is brimming with 5* luxury, service and outstanding accommodation, then this itinerary will deliver from start to finish. If you are thinking of travelling around May-June time, then this is also the icing on the cake, as for part of your safari you are right by the Grumeti River - so ideally positioned for sightings of dramatic river crossings when the famous Great Wildebeest Migration should be in the area.
After arriving into Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be whisked away to Arusha, where you will spend your first night in a spacious suite complete with a soothing rainfall shower and generous bathtub, and a private outside terrace with log fire - ideal for relaxing and unwinding before you begin your safari fully refreshed the next day.
After breakfast the next morning, you fly to Manyara Airstrip, where you are met and transferred onto the lavish AndBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows in your stilted suite overlook the magnificent Crater below - so it is no wonder that most people are happy to arrive and spend the afternoon relaxing again and just enjoying the views. A personal butler discretely caters for your every need, bringing tea in bed, stoking fireplaces and drawing luxurious bubble baths.
The next day, you descend into the crater on your 4x4 safari vehicle through a lush highland forest. Once on the grassy crater floor, you may discover a large variety of grazing herbivores, as well as the predators that are attracted by this abundant supply of prey. Depending on the time of year, you may see huge flocks of pink flamingo around the shores of the shallow Lake Magadi, while the surrounding swamp is inhabited by hippo.
The following morning, you fly to the Western Corridor of the renowned Serengeti National Park. AndBeyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp is situated on a tributary of the Grumeti River, and the camp provides beautiful views of a river bend inhabited by hippo. Game drives venture out into the wide open plains, where guests can enjoy the quintessential Serengeti landscapes in open 4x4 safari vehicles with canvas canopies. With relatively few tourists encountered in this part of the reserve, your game viewing experience, even if the Migration is not nearby, will be exciting and memorable.
You then fly to the Central Serengeti region, where the Big Five – the lion, the leopard, the buffalo, the elephant and the rhinoceros – run free on the endless, untamed landscape. Perched on a series of elevated platforms and walkways, the Four Seasons Safari Lodge sits next to an animal watering hole, where you can watch a family of elephants stop for their morning drink as you sip your own out on your room’s private balcony. You can head out on exhilarating game drives, or you can soar high in the sky on a hot-air balloon safari. However you spend your day, the Spa is waiting to help you rehydrate, restore and re-energize for your next adventure.
It is then time to head to the peace and quiet of an exclusive island just off the northeast coast of Zanzibar. Give in to the lure of total isolation and pretend that you are marooned on a deserted island, albeit one where your personal butler is perpetually on hand to cater to your every desire. And if you stay for 3 nights or more, your flight from Arusha to Zanzibar is complimentary.
Arrive into Kilimanjaro. Go through Immigration, collect your luggage and clear Customs, then make your way to the Arrivals Hall, where you will be met by your transfer driver who will be holding a sign board with your name on it. You will then be transferred to Arusha. Depending on the time your flight lands, this first night is either a necessity as you will be arriving late at night OR included so that you can relax and rest after an overnight flight, ready to start your safari adventure fresh the next morning.
Lying on the gentle rolling foothills that cascade down from the ever-present Mount Meru is the bustling and vibrant town of Arusha.
