Zambia Holiday Ideas

Zambia Holiday Ideas

Zambia is a land-locked, warm-hearted African country with an endless list of adventures on offer. Tropical, mountainous and scattered with waterfalls, it's rich in heady jungle atmosphere and even richer in wildlife. Many tourists overlook Zambia as a wildlife destination in its own right, yet the nation is packed with natural delights, making it a superb and secret spot for a safari.

The incredible cascade of Victoria Falls is, without doubt, Zambia's most famous attraction. However, if you take some time to really scratch under the surface, you'll find some real hidden gems. Zambia's National Parks are remote, authentic and truly wild. This is the place to escape into the very heart of Africa for a secluded safari in your own private wilderness. Leave the real world behind and enter a land of epic adventure.

Zambia is the original home of the walking safari, so it's probably the best place on earth to walk out into the wilderness with some of the best trained guides in Africa. Not only this, but Zambia is criss-crossed by rivers that create a wonderful natural habitat for all kinds of wildlife. During your stay, you can take a boat safaris through the tropical groves of the Luangwa and Zambezi River, watching pods of hippo lounging in the sunshine and monkeys scampering about in the trees. Zambia is brilliant birding territory, so whatever you do, don't forget your binoculars!

Combining a completely immersive safari in Zambia with a trip to Victoria Falls is a trip that you certainly won't forget in a hurry. However, if you want to take your Africa experience to the next level, why not add a few days on the shores of Lake Malawi to your adventure? This will make for a holiday of a lifetime, sending you into some spellbinding pockets of Africa that mass tourism simply doesn't reach.

We've carefully put together a handful of itinerary ideas, to give you an idea how a safari holiday in Zambia can work. Please do bear in mind that prices will change depending on when you travel:

  • High Season - June to October
  • Shoulder Season - mid May to June
  • Low/Emerald Season - November to mid May

It's also really important to note that some of the destinations are only open at certain times of the year, so if you've got your heart set on a certain safari, you'll need to plan it around these restrictions:

  • South Luangwa - open all year
  • Lower Zambezi - open 01 April to 15 November
  • Kafue North - open 01 June to 15 November
  • Livingstone - open all year

Above all, please do bear in mind that all travellers passing through South Africa after exploring Zambia are now required to present a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. Passengers travelling between Europe and Zambia and NOT passing through South Africa do not need a Yellow Fever certificate. You'll need to show proof of a Yellow Fever vaccination obtained a minimum of 10 days prior to travelling. You will NOT be allowed to apply on arrival in South Africa, as the 10 day rule is very strict indeed! A valid Yellow Fever certificate will be required for all travellers over 1 year old.
