From 1st October, fully vaccinated travellers (ie those who have been double jabbed) can travel to Mauritius and stay in any of the hotels on this beautiful island. Your only travel requirement is that you must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to departure from your country of origin.
For anyone from the UK, add this to the fact that Mauritius is on the UK Governments Amber list and you now can seriously start to plan your much needed beach holiday break.
The island of Mauritius is just under a 12 hour direct flight from London and is 4 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time but they do not operate Daylight-Saving Time. Surrounded by the azure blue waters of the Indian Ocean, this truly is a tropical island paradise. Measuring just 45 km wide and 65 km in length, this tiny island boasts 330 km of coastline and beaches.
Palm trees sway gently in the breeze. The white sandy beaches are lapped by warm ocean waves and colourful coral reefs provide a refuge for many beautiful fish and marine life.
If you are looking for a lively, activity packed holiday, head to the northern seaside village of Grande Bay (or Grande Baie). During the day, you can enjoy a plethra of water sports such as catamaran cruises, scuba and snorkelling, speed boat tours, underwater sea walks, windsurfing and water ski-ing. For a retail fix, the mixture of worldwide brand retail outlets and local fashion and craft shops will entice you in to browse the clothes, jewellery, textiles and of course the obligatory souvenirs. When the sun goes down, the many bars, restaurants and night clubs come alive with music and entertainment.
One of our favourite hotels here is the Veranda Grand Baie, offering a choice of breakfast only, half board or fully inclusive rates.
If you want to just laze on a powdery white beach and only leave your sunbed when absolutely necessary, the pristine East Coast is home to some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The light cooling breeze throughout the year keeps the sunbathing temperature always at a very pleasant level during the height of the day. One of the top hotels here is the stunning Four Seasons and guests staying here also have complimentary access to Ile aux Cerfs island, also famous for its stretches of white sandy shoreline and turquoise lagoons.
For a stunning sunset, you need to be on the West Coast. A host of hotels line the coastline here, their sunbeds jostling for space along the vast stretches of white sands. The 4* La Pirogue offers authentic Mauritian charm with bungalows inspired by traditional Mauritian fishing boats.
Claiming the title of “Best golf course in the Indian Ocean” at the World Golf Awards (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020), the award winning course at Heritage Le Telfair and Heritage Awali should be top on any golfer’s list for a round or two. For the non-golfers, there are swimming pools, spa treatments, glass bottom boat trips, nature reserve trips and even tennis courts to keep you amused.
Mauritius will enchant you, delight you and above all welcome you. If you are ready to travel again and you are in need of a beach holiday, contact one of the Travel Butlers consultants to help you plan and book a trip here, and come and enjoy the wonders of this tiny slice of tropical island paradise.
