The funky Protea Hotel Fire & Ice, in the heart of Cape Town, has recently been extended. The hotel now boasts an additional 59 superior rooms, a techno-gym, a pool deck, a champagne deck with views of the city and Table Mountain and a fashionable ‘chill’ lounge. The interior is dominated by black, red and chrome, emphasising the ‘fire’ theme, and this dominant colour combination adds a real feeling of ‘chic’ to the main guest areas, which is additionally enhanced by a new fibre-optic curtain which adorns a main stairway. The guest-only lounge is, by contrast, fully embraces the ‘ice’ theme, with its white tiles and white furniture.
The new rooms have a modern feel to them, and boast a unique ‘in-room’ frameless shower and flat-screen wall-mounted TVs.
This trendy hotel really fits the new setting of Cape Town’s business district. I’m not sure what to expect of the Techno Gym do. Does that refer to techno music?
