Nowhere in the world is there a wildlife event that sees such a phenomenal movement of animals as the Great Wildebeest Migration, also known as 'The Greatest Show on Earth'.
Every year without fail around end July/beginning of August, over 1.5 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebra cross into Kenya's Masai Mara from the neighbouring Serengeti Plains in Tanzania, in search of greener grazing land.
Having tackled the perilous Mara River, where greedy crocodiles lie in wait ready to snap up one quick meal after another, and watched by eager safari goers willing the wildebeest to win the fight, the exhausted animals spend several months replenishing their strength and munching their way across the rain ripened grassy plains.
It is not a holiday for them, though, as they also have to keep their wits about them to avoid being stalked and hunted by the huge number of big cats who call the Masai Mara their home.
The sheer sight of literally a mass of black dots across the Mara plains as far as the eye can see is a safari experience that should be on everyone's bucket list. As safari experiences go, there's nothing that can touch it.
By late October, the herds are gone, heading back down into the Serengeti again in search of the new rains and new sprouting grass.
We'll help you to witness this once in a lifetime drama, and here are some ideas to help get you started.
