Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp Location Map

Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp is an small tented camp set in a delightful ancient acacia forest on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater.

A key advantage of staying at Lemala Ngorongoro is the quick and easy access into the Crater floor. Game drives from the camp may start as early as 6.15 am and there is no time wasted at the gate as you can drive straight down to the floor within 10 to 15 minute. Lemala guests usually have an hour's head start over others in the morning, which is crucial for photographers who demand the best light conditions.

The Ngorongoro Crater is on many peoples 'wish list' of places to see and visit. This natural wonder is the largest unflooded, intact volcanic caldera in the world. The actual crater is about 20 km across and 600 meters deep, and covers 300 sq km. Within the rim there are an estimated 30,000 animals, making this one of the densest concentration of wildlife within Africa.

Escorted walks are also available into the forest and along the crater rim with an armed ranger and a Masai guide.

The camp has 9 spacious canvas tents, ensuring intimacy and minimal impact on the pristine forest environment. The roomy en-suite bathrooms contain a dressing area, flush toilet and a large safari shower. There is also one 2 bedroom family room.

The mess tent is beautifully furnished with comfy sofas, lamps, bookshelves and corner cabinets in old wood, chests and rugs. In the evening, guests gather around the campfire to exchange tales of the day's safari followed by a sumptuous hearty meal.

Children Policy

Children aged 6 years and older are welcome. Rates available on request.

Tanzania has great appeal for families. Seeing animals is very exciting for children, and nothing can prepare a parent for the delight of watching their child’s reaction when they catch sight of a lion, giraffe or elephant for the very first time. But small kids can get bored and restless on long drives or around camp if they are not entertained. Lemala Cubs offers their little guests under the age of 12 a wide range of wonderful opportunities to experience and enjoy the magic of the Africa bush. These activities are fun, educational and interesting, show future generations the need for conservation of Africa’s wildlife, and keep kids well entertained while mum and dad relax.

Some of the Lemala Cubs activities may include identifying animals and birds, learning how to throw (blunt) spears and use bows and arrows like the Masai, being taught tracking and spoor identification techniques by our guides, walking with the Masai to hear stories about their culture and way of life in the bush, and even joining the chefs in the kitchen to prepare meals or roasting marshmallows over the campfire before bed.
